BJD Udayagiri MLA files nomination for Deputy Speaker post in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Nov 20 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Udayagiri legislator Saluga Pradhan on Monday filed his nomination papers for the post of Deputy Speaker in the Odisha Assembly.

Election to the post of Deputy Speaker will be held today.

The post has been lying vacant since November 8 last after Rajani Kanta Singh had resigned.

Singh, the four time BJD MLA from Anugul was elected as the Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly in June 2019.

He represented the Anugul Assembly constituency in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

Pradhan a two time MLA told newspersons after filing his nomination papers that he will take into consideration the opinion of senior members for the smooth conduct of the business of the house.

The election of Udayagiri MLA to the post of Deputy Speaker is a foregone conclusion as no other candidate has been fielded by any political party.
